The history of holdem poker goes back for years and is a very interesting one with lots of stories behind it which have kept the game in constant growth. Holdem poker has remained popular through history and partly because many find the game easy to learn and a great game to play with friends. The actual term "holdem" as called by players when playing poker, whether used in Texas holdem or Omaho, refers to a five hand card game where players combine their own individual's hands, that only they can play, with a hand of community cards, dealt face up, that any player can use. If three Aces are dealt face up, as an example, then all players have three of a kind, Aces, and the player with the fourth Ace or the high card in their own individual hand will win the pot.

The next most noticeable change in the history of Holdem poker is mostly due to The World Series of Poker. When Texas Holdem tournaments were broadcast on television for players around America to watch this TV shown was known as The World Series of Poker. The poker games on TV helped new players learn about the game from watching and it surged in popularity in the 2000s, during this time the producers had the idea of placing micro cameras at the table that show each player's individual hand. Now that the television viewing audience knew what each player had, they could observe how players play when they bluff or how they show strength when dealt a strong individual hand.

Home games of Texas holdem sprang up all over the United States and U.K., and the game still enjoys a great deal of popularity. Today many players enjoy playing online because it is convenient, and perhaps this is the next step in the history of holdem poker.
